We're looking for a proactive and knowledgeable HR Advisor to join our People and Culture team and provide expert support across the full employee lifecycle.
What You Will Do:
As HR Advisor, you'll be the first point of contact for managers seeking guidance on people-related matters. You'll provide high-quality advice and case management, supporting the delivery of HR services that align with our policies, values, and employment legislation.
- Provide end-to-end case management for employee relations issues including investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes.
- Advise managers on sickness absence cases and Occupational Health referrals.
- Support probation processes, including SMART objective setting and documentation.
- Assist with recruitment and selection, ensuring compliance with equality and inclusion standards.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in collaboration with the People Team.
- Create and deliver management information reports (e.g. attendance, headcount, ER queries).
- Build effective relationships with Trade Union representatives.
- Advise on exit processes including redundancy, retirement, and conduct dismissals.
- Support learning and development initiatives and create training materials.
- Suggest and implement HR process improvements.
- Provide cover for other HR Advisors and deputise for the HR Business Partner when needed.
- Participate in internal and external working groups and represent HR in project meetings.
- Step in during service disruption to support customer-facing colleagues as part of the step-in programme.
What we are looking for:
We're seeking a confident and collaborative HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering excellent people support. You'll be comfortable advising on complex issues and working across a wide range of HR activities.
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or above) or equivalent.
- Part CIPD qualified or equivalent, with commitment to CPD.
- Experience in a generalist HR Advisor role.
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Experience across the full employee lifecycle.
- Familiarity with HR systems (ideally iTrent).
- Ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong planning, organising, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with Trade Unions (desirable).
- Knowledge of railway terms and conditions (desirable).
- Flexible and resilient, with the ability to adapt to change and manage pressure effectively.
