About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Health and Wellbeing Manager to lead and shape our occupational health (OH) and wellbeing provision. Sitting within the People team, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, efficient and value-for-money service that supports the health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues.

This is a strategic and operational role, working with a range of stakeholders to drive improvements in health outcomes, reduce absence, and promote a proactive wellbeing culture across the organisation.

 

What You Will Do

  • Lead the review and delivery model of Occupational Health services, ensuring a high-quality and cost-effective provision
  • Manage relationships and contracts with external OH suppliers, ensuring performance, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Develop, implement and evaluate health and wellbeing strategies, aligned to business goals and legislative requirements
  • Support the People team and Line Managers in effective sickness absence management through training, coaching, and guidance
  • Analyse and present sickness absence data and trends, providing insight and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Introduce and evaluate clinically effective medical assistance programmes to support colleague rehabilitation and return to work
  • Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to address wellbeing priorities such as mental health, stress, and rehabilitation
  • Develop processes and systems for managing OH data, ensuring effective reporting and evidence-based decision making
  • Provide expert advice on medical referrals and case management
  • Manage the Occupational Health and wellbeing budget effectively
  • Promote understanding and best practice in OH across the organisation
  • Manage delivery of our contractual obligations under the concession.
  • Contribute to training and capability building within HR and management teams
  • Stay up to date with emerging legislation and best practice, supporting organisational compliance
  • Step in to support operational teams during disruption where required

 

What You Will Bring

  • A recognised occupational health qualification, ideally with experience in the rail industry or similar safety-critical environment
  • CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent) and commitment to continuous professional development
  • Significant experience (c.5 years) in a similar OH or wellbeing leadership role
  • Strong commercial awareness with proven contract and supplier management experience
  • Excellent analytical skills, with experience interpreting and presenting data to inform decisions
  • Strong influencing, communication, and stakeholder management skills at a senior level
  • A proactive, strategic mindset with the ability to implement practical, measurable solutions
  • Experience in developing wellbeing strategies and managing absence effectively
  • Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving capabilities
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and respond positively to change
