Our Control team is the place where we make the daily operational decisions to run a high performing railway, the Elizabeth line. As the Trainer  working within the People Team but aligned to the  Control team , you be responsible for induction and on-going development for  all Control employees.  We have a number of technical roles within the Control Team who are all required to be competent and confident in running aspects of the train service with a real focus on service recovery and customer information during times of disruption. The role of the trainer is vital in strengthening service delivery and operational excellence, ensuring we deliver outstanding performance, exceptional customer experience, and fully compliant safety standards.

A knowledge of the rail industry and the workings of a Control room environment would be an advantage, however a strong Learning and Development professional who has worked in a competency, safety critical  or operational environment would have many of the skills we require. If you  have experience of designing and delivering  impactful learning solutions, coaching and developing employees and working closely with stakeholders internally and externally you may be just what we are looking for to help shape both current and future capability within our Control Team.

What You Will Do

  • Create role-specific training journeys aligned to a Risk Based TNA requirements, ensuring colleagues become competent and confident.
  • Scope, design and deliver Control Induction programmes and on-going development sessions, using modern, engaging L&D methods including digital, blended and group learning.
  • Develop, manage and curate digital learning content such as videos, animations, podcasts and infographics.
  • Facilitate high-impact face-to-face training using adult learning theory and interactive methods.
  • Work with Line Managers to embed learning into day-to-day operations and support performance improvement.
  • Create refresher training and briefings, incorporating new standards, regulations and assessment insights.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness, continuously improving content, delivery and learner experience.
  • Support training administration, record-keeping and reporting to ensure compliance and delivery against targets.
  • Provide specialist advice to your partner area and promote a strong learning culture.
  • Maintain or work towards relevant competencies for the role.
  • Support wider GTS delivery as required, including stepping in during network disruption.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental policies, promoting safe behaviours and efficient resource use.

What You Will Bring

Skills & Experience

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent (or working towards).
  • Competence or willingness to work towards Control and other relevant business area competencies.
  • Knowledge of railway operations or techincal/ operational learning expertise in a competnecy based industry
  • Strong understanding of the full training cycle.
  • Knowledge of face-to-face learning design, digital learning principles and social collaboration in learning.
  • Ability to apply a range of facilitation techniques to engage learners effectively.
  • Understanding of learning transfer, learner engagement and measuring impact.
  • Ability to create and co-design learning content with subject matter experts.
