We're looking for a Senior Payroll and Pension Specialist to ensure accurate, compliant and high-quality payroll and pension services across the organisation.

What You Will Do:

  • Deliver accurate, timely end-to-end payroll processing, including IR35 Off-Payroll workers.
  • Manage data input, checks, reconciliations, statutory returns and GDPR-compliant record keeping.
  • Oversee pension administration including Auto-enrolment, opt-outs, contributions, reconciliations and annual returns.
  • Prepare BACS documentation and liaise with the MHR payroll bureau to ensure on-time payments.
  • Line-manage the Payroll & Pension Administrator, supporting workload planning and development.
  • Act as the main contact for payroll and pension queries, ensuring SLA response times.
  • Support internal/external audits and help implement improvements and best practice.
  • Maintain payroll procedures and assist with HR systems tasks (iTrent, ESS, data loads).
  • Ensure statutory reporting (P45s, P60s, P11Ds, Auto-Enrolment, FPS, EPS , ONS surveys) is accurate and on time.
  • Build effective relationships with HR, Finance and wider business stakeholders.

 

What You Will Bring:

  • At least five years' payroll and pension experience, ideally in the rail industry.
  • Previous line-management experience in a payroll environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pensions, statutory payments and auto-enrolment.
  • Experience processing payroll end-to-end, including BACS and reconciliations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and accuracy, with confidence handling complex queries.
  • Intermediate Excel skills; iTrent experience and CIPP qualification desirable.
  • Professional, detail-driven and able to manage confidential data in line with GDPR.
